It’s true, our shop and café is where we experiment with interesting new wines, new cheeses, find perfect pairings and reveal some of the best local products our community has to offer. But most of all, our story is written by the people who come together in our space. Come say hello!

Sherri Doak

Owner

Let me introduce myself. My name is Sherri Doak, and I am the owner of Port Cheese Co.! 

I am a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Certified Health Coach, and Tiny Habits Coach with an undergraduate degree in Psychology. I have taught pilates, cooking classes, lead running groups, weight loss programs…and now I run a cheese shop!

 

I raised three children while expanding my love of learning, food and cooking.

I loved preparing recipes in my kitchen and creating healthy meals for my family. I attended the Holistic Cooking Academy of Canada and I believe that to attain health, cooking is not a luxury but a necessity. Food must be of the highest quality with few ingredients. I discovered fermentation and started making kombucha, sourdough bread and sauerkraut 25 years ago!

 

As a woman in my fifties, I strive to live a healthy lifestyle and to be as vibrant and healthy as I can be. I enjoy a glass of wine, a piece of quality artisan cheese, and dark chocolate. Life is about balance. 80% of the time I am doing all the things that keep me well but… 20% of the time I am enjoying life’s pleasure of wine, chocolate and of course good cheese! So here I am. Join me in living your best life.

Drew Doak

Wine Sommelier

Hey! My name is Drew Doak, I am based out of Toronto, ON and I am the sommelier here at the Shop, with a WSET Level 3 certification (Wine & Spirit Education Trust). When I'm not in the wine cellar at Port Cheese I am in the city managing Old Flame Brewing Company's Distillery District location. I was involved with Old Flame during its inception 10 years ago and have worked in varying capacities ever since, while also building a career in Environmental Engineering. In 2020 I began to fall in love with wine and I've spent the last few years learning, studying, and tasting wines from all around the world.

 

In 2022 I left my engineering career, moved out west to Kelowna, BC & worked as a Winery Ambassador with Cedar Creek Estate Winery. It was there that I truly started to understand the industry & deepened my passion for wine. I moved back to Toronto when the Distillery District location started to get built out, and shortly after the opportunity at the Port Cheese Co. became available. Now I am lucky enough to buy wines from all around the world to our little family-run cheese shop in the heart of downtown Port Perry.
